The idea of Plum Produce was to make the best local produce that Barbara Lynch uses in her restaurants available for her customers to use at home. Besides produce, the store sold house-made dried herbs and spices, preserved fruits and vegetables, and fresh flowers.
We designed the space to reflect Barbara’s attitude about food: craft and tradition with an innovative, modern edge. Plum Produce was an updated urban equivalent of a New England organic farm stand. The main elements of the store were completely utilitarian—stainless steel refrigerators and sinks, a white glass marker board, white plastic display trays and simple white boxes—and also serve to give the shop a crisp, lab-like look. Stark white and spring green walls reflect the freshness of the plum produce.
